Godfrey Byrne Sydney Uni graduation photo

The Irish Gaelic letters on this picture apparently mean 'Ireland forever', pronounced 'Erin go brach'. The removal of the year may be relevant as it may have coincided with an insurrection in Ireland. This photo may represent the last evidence of the Irish potato famine (~1851) on our family.

Dorothy Coster, secretary to three generations of Drs Byrne!
Some Byrne miscellany …
In an idle moment I rang Dorothy Coster who sounds amazingly spritely for 88. She has thrown away her ‘useless’ walking stick and is now almost fully mobile with a Zimmer frame. Most of the Hurstville buses are not wide enough for the frame which gives her something serious to complain about since going to Hurstville is her most enjoyable outing … last trip to Brisbane was a bore, she said! ‘Doff’ was delighted to hear about Felix – and his first birthday was the first she knew of his existence! She sends her best love to Doll, Cam and all the other Byrnes.
After that I made another few calls to old-timers. Helen Wright sounded delighted to hear of Burnsie and Richie’s sojourn in New York. They had followed her strict ‘orders’ to go to the female pharaoh’s room. Helen’s hearing is still improving and simple telephone conversations are now possible - but she is more comfortable ‘in person’ to be sure. Ivan Mauro sounded in good spirits when I called him at the grand old house in Kyle Bay. I tried Barry Byrne a few times but kept getting a recording. Maybe he is overseas again.
Happy daze! Andrew B ..
